Abe's library contains many secrets. Among detective novels and books of poems, there are ancient legends and historical records, incredible prophecies encountered by the agency and many other things frequently hidden from society. The merman never avoided using the privileges given by membership in BPRD. After all, those books could help him one day.
Among these secrets, however, are also small and personal ones. For example, the fourteenth book on the lowest shelf of second bookcase hides behind it a thick diary with a plain, but sturdy, cover. It doesn't get a lot of action these days. Decades ago, in his first days in the Bureau, Abe felt that to keep things coherent, he should start a diary that would contain all the notes from his cases that could prove useful. The result was interesting. From complex notes on magic rituals to simple records on what monster hits the hardest and what bullets should be used on them, the merman recorded everything in small, tidy font until the book could hold no more.
Tonight, Abe takes that diary from the shelf for the first time in several years. At first, he considers simply giving it to Henry when they meet next time... He did promise to provide these notes to his friend. However, a second later, curiosity overwhelms and the merman ends up opening the book on the first page. They contain the best kinds of personal anecdotes. For example, notes on Yetis.
"Note to self. Next time you encounter an angry Yeti, just run away."
Several minutes later, small muffled chuckles become noticeable to anyone who walks past Abe's quarters. What can he say in his defense? It was nice being young.

In the words of Mark Twain, the rumors of my death have been highly exaggerated.
I am currently in my BPRD quarters, waiting while our respectable specialists on sea life change the water in my tank. The water in Silent Hill's sewers and other man-made water supply systems proved to be quite filthy. My gills are clogged up and damaged and it'll take me a week or two of rest to recover. A boring process, you can be sure, since humanity has yet to invent waterproof books and laptops with internet access.
The good side is, my recovery won't take too long. Even in Silent Hill, the water pollution level will never compare to the horrors of Venice.
In other news, this tour into the depths of despair made me consider turning vegetarian. However, the realization that I'd become the laughingstock of every tropical fish out there made me quickly shift the plans to simply getting over my unpleasant memories.
The only thing I can add is, I'm very grateful to everyone who helped in this difficult journey and helped us bring back a wonderful woman like Elizabeth Sherman-Townshend back to her home. Thank you.
Well, it appears that the water's been changed. Off to the tank with me now. I might sneak out and check the email once in a while. Hopefully, no one will catch me.

My friends? I believe I've found something that will shed some light on how to use the key that's supposed to lead us to Liz.
When I began my research on Silent Hill mythos, one word in the riddles given by Eileen really bothered me. Atshen. I was sure I've seen it before, but forgot where exactly. I tried to look further in the existing documents, but found nothing of importance... Until a certain phrase. One of the books mentioned that while Silent Hill religion originally used unique names for its gods and demons, foreign influence eventually made them borrow names from other religions... I assume that it was done to hide the religion and protect it from witch hunts and exorcists.
Believing that Atshen could also be a borrowed name, I decided to check other sources.
I was correct. In Inuit mythology, Atshen were creatures similar to Native American Wendigo. Once human, they were transformed into giant monsters with no lips and hair growing out of their hearts for resorting to cannibalism. Unlike other spirits, with whom a shaman could achieve an understanding, Atshen were violent and impossible to reason with. In fact, shamans were among their favorite food.
The most popular myth about Atshen involves a shaman running away from the monster and hiding on an island. With Atshen stalking around, he couldn't prepare any food for him and his wife and was starving... So in order to get rid of the monster, he performed a shaking tent - an ancient Inuit ritual used to telepathically communicate with spirits. In some versions, spirits conceal the shaman and his wife from Atshen, and the monster leaves far away because it believes food to no longer be there. In others, shaman summons spirits who attack and kill Atshen. Due to the legend's age, it's difficult to find out the original version.
I believe this is it. Now, is there anything in Silent Hill that can be related to this information?

Those dealing with Walter's kidnapping of Liz, might have noticed that Abe is very quiet about the situation, occasional mock of Walter aside. He doesn't show up in the Nexus, he doesn't pull off any crazy plans, he's barely on anyone's radar. Suspicious!
Those familiar with BPRD's inner workings, might hear a different story. Lately, Abe is doing a lot of research on things like 'Silent Hill' and 'Walter Sullivan Case'. He even browses the net for those during work, when he's supposed to be working on paperwork.
There are two sets of rumors about this. The first one is Abe being on a secret assignment from the chief himself. The second state that Abe recently requested a transfer and is now back to field duty. No one is surprised by either. There was a betting pool on the merman's return to field duty, and the majority expected him to last much less.
(( I figured I might as well use the recent events to promote my secret agenda of pulling Abe out of his Edith angst and back to his regular fishie self. >_> ))

Abe's investigation went smoothly. There were, surprisingly, no zombies, ghosts, poltergeists and other things of paranormal and questionable nature. Instead, there were whiny, easily scared newbies who kept arguing, bumping into things and shrieking in horror. There was also a lot of facepalming from the merman.
The entire spectacle ended when one of the newbies bumped into a closet, resulting in a large box wrapped in old, dusty cloth falling on his head. It didn't kill him, but it did knock him out. His partner decided that this was a ghost attack. He also decided that the best way to deal with a ghost attack is to scream like a terrified banshee and faint. Horrified with such display of incompetence, Abe told the rest of the team to carry their two 'casualties' into the medical wing. As for the box, he took it with him. It looked suspicious.
Yes, it seems that frog attacks call for desperate times and hiring whoever BPRD can find.
Abe is currently in the lab, only several rooms away from the medical wing. The box, still wrapped in cloth, is in front of him. The merman is looking over it in curiosity, and is about to start opening it.

I was asked to dig around in old, abandoned storages around the base. Apparently, they didn't dig through all of the lower floors yet. All field agents are too busy to assign to that duty.
...I suppose it's a good chance to take a break from paperwork.

The last few weeks were busier for Abe than he expected them to be. You'd think that with the frog menace, field workers would have most of the work. In reality, they just had the dangerous part. With the countless mission reports flowing in, as well as requests for weapons and equipment, paperwork was overwhelming. Sometimes, Abe and his co-workers had to work overtime in order to make sure everything works out. Some of them were already prepared for death by exhaustion.
Today is one of those busy paperwork days. By the time evening comes, Abe still has a ton of paperwork to wade through. He takes it all to his room and continues working there, slowly working his way through huge heaps of paper and computer files. He works slower than others in his department, partially because of little experience and partially because he's too responsible to not read every document several times through.
And once in a while, as he reads through another mission report, Abe freezes with a hesitant expression on his face. His gaze runs across the casualty numbers, the mentions of weird sightings during missions and other such things... And then, he turns away from the paperwork and toward the table near his armchair. There, barely noticeable in dimly lit room, stands an old photo encased in a wooden frame. Edith Caul. His wife.
And he stares at that photo for long, quiet minutes, as if hoping that it'll tell him something. And when the answer never appears, he goes back to work. Over and over again.

Hellboy is back, and we have a new field commander who decided to relocate us to Colorado. A noisy fellow.
...Liz is married.
I knew I should've called over the last eight months.
